The host
Marion Nicolas
Having completed extensive professional training internationally, Marion has always been driven by a deep desire to share her knowledge and experience.
Deeply passionate and strongly committed to animal welfare, she ran her own animal protection organisation for nearly ten years and now leads a parrot conservation association. Through this work, she has repeatedly witnessed the damage that can result from misunderstanding an animal, often leaving humans overwhelmed, exhausted, and on the brink.
For her, knowledge is the key.
That is how CICA was born: from a desire to share, to make sure no one is left behind, and to give everyone access to strong foundations guided by specialised professionals with solid scientific background and a strict ethical commitment to both human and animal wellbeing.
CICA is a concentration of the very best.
And now is the time to be part of it!

Day 2 : Tuesday 17 March
The Biting Parrot: Rebuilding a Harmonious Relationship
with Cassie Malina
Cassie is a behaviour consultant specialising in avian behaviour. For over 25 years, she has supported guardians in understanding, preventing and resolving problematic behaviours in parrots. Her work is grounded in behavioural science and focuses on practical, evidence-based strategies that are both effective and respectful of the bird’s emotional wellbeing.
Cassie spent more than two decades working with Natural Encounters, contributing to the development and management of free-flight bird shows, including at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In her CICA presentation, Cassie explores parrot biting through a functional lens. She examines the multiple motivations that may underlie aggressive behaviour, the learning mechanisms that maintain it, and the early strategies that help rebuild trust and cooperation. Her intervention is scientific, accountable and deeply empathetic, offering a structured path towards safer and more harmonious human–bird relationships.
Rethinking Enrichment: Beyond Toys
with Robin Horemans
Robin is a multi-certified avian behaviour consultant from Canada who’s worked for over 20 years supporting parrot guardians facing complex behavioural challenges, including biting, excessive vocalisation and aggression. Her work is firmly rooted in learning theory and a strong ethical commitment to welfare-centred practice.
At CICA, Robin challenges the common assumption that enrichment equals objects or toys. She invites us to rethink enrichment as opportunities for engagement, cognitive flexibility and emotional resilience. Drawing from both field observation and applied science, she proposes progressive and measurable strategies to recreate meaningful behavioural opportunities within domestic environments. Her presentation encourages guardians to observe, evaluate and refine enrichment practices with rigour and intention.
Day 3 : Wednesday 18 March
The Hidden Power of Scent
with Laure Hanouna
Laure is a canine behaviour consultant and founder of Chien Zen. Working between Switzerland and France for over 25 years, she initially trained in traditional dog clubs before specialising in behaviour and the support of sensitive and reactive dogs. Since 2012, she has developed extensive expertise in olfaction, combining professional detection work with sports such as nosework and mantrailing.
At CICA, Laure explores a fundamental question: what if scent work is far more than a hobby? She explains why olfaction is both a core biological need and a powerful emotional regulation tool. Through practical examples, she demonstrates how scent-based activities can support reactive dogs, enhance self-regulation and enrich daily life without complex equipment. Her presentation offers an accessible and pragmatic invitation to observe our dogs differently and integrate scent as a genuine wellbeing tool.
This interview is in French, with English subtitles available.
Predation: Towards a Holistic Understanding
with Sarah Bachelet
Sarah has been a canine behaviour consultant since 2019, specialising in predatory behaviours and reactivity. Based near Bordeaux in France, her interest in predation emerged after adopting Petra, her deaf dog with strong hunting instincts. Confronted with limited resources at the time, she undertook extensive study and now works exclusively with dogs presenting predatory patterns, often intertwined with reactivity.
At CICA, Sarah moves beyond simplistic interpretations of predation as disobedience or stubbornness. She offers a nuanced and functional understanding of predatory behaviour, integrating emotional states, environmental context and reinforcement history. Her intervention provides practical levers for regaining safer, more connected walks while respecting the dog’s behavioural repertoire.

Day 4 : Thursday 19 March
Living with Resource Guarding: Building Safety Through Trust
with Julie Séférian
Julie is a certified canine behaviour consultant specialising in resource guarding and founder of Robinsonner Ensemble. Fear Free® certified and a Certified Canine Behaviour Consultant (4C), she grounds her work in behavioural science and supports guardians through respectful, non-aversive methods designed to reduce fear, stress and anxiety while preserving emotional safety for all involved.
In her CICA session, Julie explores resource guarding in depth. She explains why this behaviour is both normal and functional, how to recognise early warning signals before escalation, and how environmental management and predictability can restore safety within the household. Her presentation is structured, reassuring and highly practical, offering families clear guidance when faced with emotionally charged situations.

Day 5 : Friday 20 March
Beneath the Surface: The Gut–Brain–Skin Axis
with Amber Batson
Dr Amber Batson is a UK-based veterinary who graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London. Early in her career, she recognised the behavioural dimensions embedded within many “medical” consultations, leading her to pursue advanced training in behavioural sciences. Today, she combines clinical veterinary work, behavioural consultations and international teaching. Her approach is scientific, pragmatic and deeply empathetic.
At CICA, Amber invites us to look beneath the surface. She explains how gut health, skin condition and neurological processes interact within the gut–brain–skin axis, and why this bidirectional relationship can directly influence behaviour. Noise sensitivity, reactivity, guarding and irritability may sometimes reflect inflammation, discomfort or suboptimal wellbeing rather than purely “behavioural issues”. Her presentation bridges medicine and behaviour, offering concrete tools for observation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Decoding Noise Sensitivity
with Marion Nicolas
Marion is an animal behaviour consultant specialising in chronic stress, trauma-related patterns, sensitivity profiles and separation anxiety. Internationally multi-certified, she supports complex cases often presenting comorbidities such as chronic pain, noise sensitivity, neophobia and reactivity. Her approach is grounded in rigorous data collection, scientific literature and strict ethical standards centred on emotional well-being.
At CICA, Marion explores noise sensitivity through a structured and functional lens. She distinguishes between different sensitivity profiles and examines the interplay between stress, pain and learning processes. Through practical profiling tools and a reflection grounded in scientific literature, she provides clear frameworks to understand, prevent and support these often misinterpreted sensitivities. A structured, rigorous and deeply insightful presentation designed to better support the most vulnerable dogs.
This interview is in French, with English subtitles available.
Day 6 : Saturday 21 March
Training as enrichment
with Eduardo J. Fernandez
Dr Eduardo Fernandez is Director of the Animal Behaviour Programme and Senior Lecturer in Applied Behaviour and Animal Welfare at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Specialising in zoo, aquarium and companion animal welfare, he leads the Exotic Enrichment and Learning (EEL) laboratory. His research focuses on improving quality of life through evidence-based applications of learning theory and evolutionary principles.
At CICA, Eduardo examines a central question: under what conditions does training become enrichment? He clarifies what enrichment truly means beyond simply “providing an object” and explains how to measure whether an activity genuinely enhances wellbeing. His presentation explores the relationship between training methods, emotional state and human–animal relationships, offering an accessible yet scientifically grounded reflection on how to design meaningful learning experiences.
Puppy Biting: A Barometer of Needs?
with Marion Terree
Marion is a canine behaviour consultant and the founder of Nobody’s Perfect, established in 2021 following extensive training in Applied Behaviour Analysis. Specialising in supporting families with puppies, she helps bridge the often challenging gap between the imagined puppy and the real one, with their own genetics, experiences and individual needs. Her approach combines scientific rigour with deep empathy, placing strong emphasis on prevention and a nuanced understanding of everyday behaviour.
At CICA, Marion explores puppy biting from a fresh perspective: what if it were a barometer of unmet needs? Rather than focusing solely on stopping the behaviour, she invites us to understand its function. A need for movement, sleep, emotional regulation, space… or even indicators of underlying discomfort. Her session offers clear guidance for adopting a calmer, more functional interpretation of behaviour, enabling families to support their puppy with greater confidence and clarity.
This interview is in French, with English subtitles available.
Day 7 : Sunday 22 March
Evidence-Based Feline Nutrition
with Coline Doebelin
Coline is a feline nutritionist holding a Master of Science in Animal Nutrition. She specialises in home-prepared diets, both raw and cooked, and supports guardians wishing to prepare balanced meals while maintaining rigorous nutritional adequacy.
At CICA, Coline clarifies key concepts often misunderstood in online discussions: homemade rations, supplementation (CMV), nutrient balance, digestibility, phosphorus management and the microbiome. She explains how to build a nutritionally balanced bowl without falling into the online narratives, and how to adapt feeding choices to real-life constraints without guilt or pressure.
This interview is in French, with English subtitles available.
Food allergies and intolerances in dogs
with Jen Kim
Jen is a canine nutritionist with a strong interest in raw feeding and individualised diets. Her professional path emerged from a deep personal commitment to understanding her own dog’s nutritional needs.
At CICA, she tackles a topic that generates widespread confusion: food allergies and intolerances in dogs. She distinguishes between immune-mediated reactions and digestive sensitivities, addresses common misconceptions (including so-called “miracle tests” and hypoallergenic marketing claims), and explains why elimination diets remain the gold standard. Her presentation emphasises careful observation, veterinary collaboration and critical thinking in navigating complex nutritional cases.
This interview is in French, with English subtitles available.
